From the artist:
This image is from a series titled All the Presidents’ Men that combines photographs from presidential museums across the United States with images constructed in my father and grandfather’s homes. Decision Room was made in the "White House Decision Center," a replica of the West Wing in the basement of the Truman presidential museum in Independence, Missouri. Visitors assume the roles of President Truman and his advisors as they encounter complex problems at home and abroad. According to information pamphlets, these include: “ending the war in Japan, desegregating the U.S. Armed Forces, reacting to the soviet blockade of Berlin, and responding to the Communist invasion of South Korea." After visiting a large number of presidential and historic sites across the country, I noticed that Lincoln's portrait is a common feature. The portrait reflected here in a glass tabletop sometimes overlooks shoulders of schoolchildren sitting in oversized leather chairs discussing whether or not they agree with Truman's decision to drop atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
