From the Artist:
Under the Tangerine Tree is a self-portrait from the series A Bee in Her Bonnet. Most of the body of work from this series is photographed on a large plot of land out Route 70 in the heart of South Florida. Fruit trees are a large part of the Floridian landscape. This image was taken in early summer when the humidity begins to rise, so the tangerines and oranges are just past their prime. This tree goes unpicked, so the rotting peels fall back to the earth. The character in this image is a sexualized not-so-southern belle, and she confronts the gaze of the viewer on her own volition. She cautiously invites the viewer into the landscape, surrounded by strange objects stored on an old patio.
