From the artist:
"Matt is a portrait from a body of work called Lost Boys in which I have photographed old friends and strangers from my generation who have moved back in with their families. Some may argue whether these are boys or men. Matt was 23 when we took this photograph. I had not seen him in over five years. He had moved back in with his Aunt after studying writing at Harvard and was now learning to brew beer.
This photograph was taken in his Aunt’s backyard in late August. The sun was setting through the dense plants that had overgrown all summer and like the rusted chairs had not been taken care of. In a state of reflection Matt equally reveals and conceals his vulnerability by confronting the viewer with his gaze, yet keeping a distance with his closed body language. There is tension between the landscape and his expression that indicate physically and psychologically Matt is within his own paradise lost."
