From the artist:
"This is my grandmother, Elly. She is my father’s mother. In my family, she is affectionately known as “Granny”, or at times “Granola”. She spent most of her life doing secretarial work, has a high bowling score in the 250’s, and dresses monochromatically. As a teenager, she would often pull up pieces of freshly laid tar and chew it like gum. As a child, I used to slide plastic spoons into her fluffy white hair. She never let on knowing. On the occasion of her 80th birthday, she got her first tattoo, the butterfly pictured here. Since that time she has added a full bouquet of roses to her right forearm. Granny never finishes her dessert."
